March 5th Presidential Primary

The Virginia Presidential Primary is on Tuesday, March 5th, 2024. The polls are open from 6:00am to 7:00pm on the day of the primary.

The Democratic and Republican parties have both called for a Primary Election for the purpose of selecting delegates to the national convention for the Republican and Democratic Parties for the office of President of the United States. 

*Notice: Early voting will be in the basement of City Hall room 012. Enter through the main City Hall entrance and follow the signs.

Curbside Voting is available at all voting precincts on Election Day and City Hall during early voting. Call 540-432-7707 when you arrive. 

Important Dates:

The Voter Registration Deadline for the March Presidential Primary: Monday, February 12th, 2024.

• At Registrar's Office - 5:00pm  *Check operating hours for DMV or other state designated voter registration agencies authorized to receive voter registration applications.
• By mail - Postmarked by February 12th, 2024.
• Online Registration via Virginia Department of Elections website - 11:59pm  *Applications that are required to be printed and delivered to the registrar should be treated as regular mailed in applications (postmarked by February 12, 2024). The February 12, 5:00pm deadline would apply if they are submitted in-person at the Registrar's Office. 

In Person Absentee Voting Starts (Early Voting): Friday, January 19th, 2024

In Person Absentee Voting: January 19th – March 2nd: Monday through Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm and on Saturday, February 24th and March 2nd from 9:00am until 5:00pm (*City Hall is closed on Monday, February 19th for President's Day) 

The last day to vote in person Absentee (Early Voting): Saturday, March 2nd, 2024

Requested absentee ballots for the March 5th Presidential Primary will start to go out by January 17th
The last day to request a ballot by mail is Friday, February 23rd, 2024 at 5:00pm.
The last day for absentee ballots to be returned by mail for the March Presidential Primary: Friday, March 8th, 2024 (they must be postmarked by March 5th, 2024 ) 

Ballots can also be returned in person at the Registrar's office but only by the voter, or to your polling location on Election Day.
Ballots must be returned to the locality from which they were mailed out.
