How Do I Register To Vote?
Fill out a Voter Registration Application form which can be obtained by:
- Calling your local Registrar's office at 540-432-7707
- Stopping by your local Registrar's office at 409 South Main Street, Harrisonburg, VA 22801
- Online: Virginia Department of Elections
- Other locations where applications are available
The completed application can be filed with or mailed to the City Registrar Office at 409 South Main Street, Harrisonburg, VA 22801-7531. Application for registration can be submitted using a Virginia Voter Registration Application form or a National Voter Registration Application form. Military and other persons residing outside of the United States should contact the Federal Voting Assistance Program for registration information.
Once you have submitted your registration form, you should receive a voter information letter or a denial letter in the mail. If you do not receive one, contact the Registrar's office at 540-432-7707 to make sure that your application has been processed.

You can check to see if you are already registered to vote, verify and update your information by going to the Virginia Department of Elections website.
*If all of your information is correct, you do not need to update your current registration.

Cancel Voter Registration
Fill out a Request to Cancel Voter Registration form which can be obtained by:

College Students
College students have the option of claiming residency at either their college or their home district when registering to vote. A person can have residency in only one place at a time.
JMU (see poster below)
If you are living on campus in a residence hall (not Grace Street) and want to register on JMU campus then you need to put 800 S Main Street 22807 AND your PMB number on your voter registration form for residence. You MUST include your JMU PMB #.
If you are a resident of the Apartments on Grace Street, there are special instructions for you. Enter 42 W. Grace Street, Room # _____Harrisonburg, VA 22801 for your Residence Address line, but also check the second box under #4 and include your mailing address: 800 S. Main Street, Box # G---, Harrisonburg, VA 22807.
If you live off campus, use that mailing address.
EMU
If you are living on campus in a residence hall and want to register at EMU then you need to put 1200 Park Rd 22802 AND your Hall name on your voter registration form for residence.
If you live off campus, use that mailing address.
Note: If you update your Virginia drivers license or Virginia vehicle registration through the VA DMV, your voter registration will be updated (if you don’t select the opt out option) to that address.
