What is ADA Paratransit Service:
The Department of Transportation Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into federal law in 1990. This is a civil rights law that requires all public entities operating fixed route transit to provide complementary paratransit to persons with disabilities. Eligibility is to be strictly limited to certain categories of individuals.
All persons who use this service must be issued a paratransit card. Applications are available in the Public Transit office located at 475 E. Washington Street. You may request an application through the mail by contacting Cheryl Spain or download the application.
$2.00 per one-way trip within the city limits. You must have the correct amount for your fare; the driver will not make change.
Please call 540-432-0492 to schedule transportation with our paratransit service.
Passengers who require a Personal Care Assistant (PCA) will be allowed such assistance at no extra cost. Paratransit cards will be marked to acknowledge this requirement. Otherwise, additional passengers will pay $2.00. Drivers are not allowed to enter homes or destinations to assist passengers, or to assist with packages. Service is curb-to-curb only.
Our office is now equipped to register paratransit riders to vote and/or make address changes with the State Elections Board. If you would like more information on this new service, please contact Cheryl Spain. She can be reached Monday-Friday from 6:00am to 3:00pm at 540-432-0492.
