Great American Campout

June 22, 2019 - THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED

Due to recommendations from the Virginia Department of Health and Centers for Disease Control regarding limiting social gatherings, we have decided to cancel the Great American Campout scheduled for June 22. While we are disappointed not to be able to hold this beloved community event this year, we believe it is the best interest of the health and wellness of our residents and participants to cancel at this time. We appreciate everyone's understanding of this decision.

Hillandale Park

Great American CampoutThe Harrisonburg Parks and Recreation will join thousands of families across the nation gathering in their backyards, neighborhoods, communities, and parks on June 22, 2019 to enjoy a simple night of camping for the 14th Annual Great American Campout, presented by National Wildlife Federation.

Great American Campout is a part of National Wildlife Federation’s 10 Million Kids Outdoors Campaign. This initiative seeks a future in which all children spend time outside each day, creating a generation of happier and healthier children with more awareness and connection to the natural world. National Wildlife Federation has worked to connect children and youth with nature for decades, inspiring children through Ranger Rick magazine, working with educators to get kids learning outdoors, and helping parents find new ways to engage their children outside.

We will be holding our local campout at Hillandale Park. Advance registration is required as we have a limit of 50 tents for this year's event. To register please call Erik Dart at 540-433-2474 or email Erik.Dart@harrisonburgva.gov.
