The public comment period for the Draft Phase 2 Chesapeake Bay TMDL Action Plan is September 23 - October 8, 2019.
The City of Harrisonburg’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) general permit, issued by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VDEQ), requires the development and implementation of a Chesapeake Bay Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Phase 2 (40%) Action Plan for cleaning up the Bay. The Action Plan identifies strategies to reduce nitrogen, phosphorus and sediment pollution by 40% from the City of Harrisonburg before July 1, 2023, to comply with the TMDL developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The public comment period provides an opportunity for citizens to comment on the additional BMPs proposed in the second phase as well as a chance to express any concerns about the plan. Members of the community are encouraged to review the plan online and ask city staff questions for additional information if needed. A summary of comments received will be included in the plan as well as any revisions made to the Action Plan as a result of public participation.
Comments on the Chesapeake Bay TMDL Action Plan can be submitted in writing to Rebecca Stimson at Rebecca.Stimson@HarrisonburgVA.gov or by mail to 320 E. Mosby Road, Harrisonburg, VA 22801. The deadline for comments is October 8, 2019.
