The Department of Public Utilities is responsible for providing water and sewer services to residences and businesses in the City of Harrisonburg and some in neighboring Rockingham County.

Zoning and Subdivision Ordinance Update - Ordinance Advisory Committee (OAC)

The Ordinance Advisory Committee will meet with city staff and the consultant team six times during the Zoning and Subdivision Ordinance Update to represent the broader community, review draft ordinances, serve as a sounding board for new ideas and solutions, and to provide constructive input.

HPD P.A.T.C.H. Summer Camp 2024

Pride, Accountability, Teamwork, Courage and Honor (P.A.T.C.H.) exemplify what is expected in a police officer and this camp will allow the HPD to interact with youth in a positive, friendly environment that develops trust while focusing on those five core values.

Civic and Community Organizations Funding Application Packet

The City of Harrisonburg civic and community organizations grant program, commonly referred to as community contributions, provides an opportunity for qualified non-profit organizations that deliver services to Harrisonburg residents to receive funding from the city.

City Benefits Study Results and Evaluation Process

The City of Harrisonburg Human Resources Department, joined by the Benefits Study Committee, conducted an organization-wide initiative in early 2024 to understand what benefits City employees would like to see enhanced or added, and what pressures they are experiencing in their lives and the lives of their families or loved ones that could be positively impacted by benefits. That process resulted in approximately 30 recommendations that now must be studied and evaluated before they can be considered for implementation.

Capital Improvement Program

The approved Capital Improvement Program (CIP) for Fiscal Year 2024-2025 through Fiscal Year 2028-2029 is available online. The CIP is a multi-year production and scheduling of capital projects of $50,000 or greater with an appropriate financing plan to fund these projects.

HPD Animal Care and Control

The City of Harrisonburg Animal Care and Control Unit is responsible for enforcing the Virginia Comprehensive Animal Laws, as well as the local ordinances relating to domestic animals. It identifies public safety issues and works directly with the community on animal and pet care issues.
