Parks and Recreation
The mission of the Harrisonburg Department of Parks and Recreation is to enhance the quality of life and meet the needs of the community by providing comprehensive leisure service opportunities and to develop and maintain a safe system of open spaces and public facilities for the use and enjoyment by the public.
Purcell Park
Purcell Park has three softball/baseball fields, three tennis courts, two pickleball courts, a playground, three picnic shelters, several restrooms, and a 1.5 mile walking trail.

There are 12 main parks in Harrisonburg City along with several other properties that are maintained by the Harrisonburg Parks and Recreation. These parks offer several natural surface trails, athletic fields, picnic shelters, playgrounds, basketball courts, and many other amenities.
