Our Youth Football Program runs from July to October and includes programs for grades 1-8. Leagues are open to City residents only. Scholarships are available (upon request). Call 540-433-9168 for additional information and an application.

Youth Flag Football League
Registration will open May 26 and will close August 21. This program will be open to City residents, grades 1-2 and 3-4 (2026-2027 school year). All necessary equipment will be provided with the exception of cleats and mouthpiece. Email Jordan.Cherry@harrisonburgva.gov or call 540-433-9168 for additional details.
- Season begins September 9, and is scheduled to conclude by October 28.
- Practices and games will be held at the Smithland Athletic Complex on the football field, on Monday and Wednesday evenings. 1-2 league will meet from 5:45pm-6:30pm, and the 3-4 grade league will meet from 6:40pm-7:30pm.
Tackle Football League (Grades 5-6)
Registration will open May 26 for the 2026 season and will close July 24. This program is open to City residents, grades 5-6 (2026-2027 school year). This program will take place in conjunction with Rockingham County Parks and Recreation. All necessary equipment will be provided with the exception of cleats. - Games will be held on either the Smithland Athletic Complex or the Rockingham County Park at the Crossroads.
- Copies of birth certificates are required upon registration.
- Equipment fitting will take place the week of July 20-24 by appointment, contact Steven.Hollister@harrisonburgva.gov.
- Conditioning week takes place July 27-31.
Middle School Tackle Football League (Grades 7-8)
Registration will open on May 26 for the 2026 season. This program is open to City residents who attend either Thomas Harrison or Skyline Middle School, grades 7-8 (2026-2027 school year). VHSL physicals are required to participate. This league will play in conjunction with the high school junior varsity schedule against other Valley District teams. All necessary equipment will be provided except cleats. Practices begin August 24, games begin September 24.
*This league is not considered a recreational program. There are no playing time requirements.
