ARPA-Funded Replacement of Kids Castle - In December 2022, Harrisonburg City Council approved utilizing $2.65 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds for the replacement of the Kids Castle play structure at Purcell Park. The City is currently finalizing designs for the new playground, which will be built on the site of the current playground starting in 2025. More information and design visuals of the playground will be presented to the Harrisonburg community in late September. A detailed public engagement campaign took place in 2019-2020, where community members expressed interest in replacing the aging structure with a new and unique playground utilizing some of the new, exciting options available for modern play structures. Feedback from community members is being used in designing the new playground.
