The Harrisonburg Police Department, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), participates in the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Event.

This is a free service provided by law enforcement to local communities. Individuals can drop off any unused, unwanted, or expired prescription drugs for disposal.

Syringes, needles, liquids or any other dangerous materials will not be accepted. Please remove any personal identification from the medication bottles and boxes.

The Virginia State Police and the Drug Enforcement Agency will properly dispose of all medication collected.

The April 2021 event was a success with 265 pounds of prescription medication collected by HPD.

The next event will be held in October 2021, check back in September for details.

This national event happens twice per year, however, there are several drop off sites that are open year-round in the area: Sentara RMH, HPD's lobby, and most CVS's or Medicap.
