Toter Trash Carts

The new Toter system utilizes a Toter trash cart that attaches to a tipper plate, attached to each of the City's sanitation trucks, to lift the 96- or 48-gallon Toter trash carts provided by Public Works for use at each of the serviced addresses.

Recycling

Residents are responsible for taking their own, presorted, recyclable materials to the center or mobile unit. Once at the drop-off location, the items will need to be placed into the appropriately labeled container. An attendant will be on-site to provide assistance.

Downtown Streetscape Plan

The Plan's overall goal is: "To present an easily communicable, comprehensive vision for the public streetscape in Downtown Harrisonburg that can be utilized by public and private agencies to further develop and sustain a vibrant downtown."

How Can I Get a Recycling Bin?

The Public Works Department curbside recycling program has been discontinued.  This change in process is due to significant changes in the type of items now accepted for recycling.  All recycling for the City of Harrisonburg is now collected at either the Recycling Convenience Center on Beery Rd or at the Mobile Recycling Unit.

Please call the Public Works Department at 540-434-5928 if you would like any additional information.
